Creating & Managing Ledgers

Learn how to set up split-bill events, manage members, and close ledgers.

Ledgers are the core containers in Settlr. Every dinner, vacation, or monthly shared house expense should be created as its own ledger.

Creating a Ledger

  1. Open your Home dashboard.
  2. Under the Split Bill section, tap Ledgers and select New Ledger (or create one directly from the welcome panel).
  3. Fill in the ledger details:
    • Title: A recognizable name (e.g., "PIK Dinner May 2026").
    • Date: The date of the event.
    • Passcode: A 4-digit code (e.g., 1234) to secure the sharing view.

Managing Participants

Once a ledger is created, you can define who belongs to the group:

  • Add Members: Type names to add friends.
  • Remove Members: Delete participants if they didn't consume anything (only available if they aren't assigned to any active expense items).

Closing a Ledger

When all expenses have been entered and everyone has paid their dues, you can Close the ledger.

  • Closing a ledger locks it from edits, preventing accidental modifications to splits or totals.
  • You can reopen a ledger at any time if you need to add late expenses.
